The 5-Minute Skincare Morning Routine

Many experts will tell you the nighttime skincare routine you follow is the most important routine to establish for a bright glowing youthful complexion. While this is true, the morning routine is just as crucial. Your nighttime routine is all about regenerative skincare and your morning routine is all about protection and preservation.

Morning routines may vary based on skin type and age, but we have found time is the biggest factor for most women. So to prevent skipping a morning skincare regimen, we have created a 5-minute routine that will serve you will.  It will provide the protection you need from the sun and other environmental factors that increase the aging process.

STEP 1: CLEANSING

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, washing your face twice a day is important and recommended. Throughout the day and night, excess oils, dirt, and impurities build up on your skin. Removing them will help prevent clogged pores and breakouts.  Additionally, it helps slow the aging process.

  • Use a facial cleanser best suited for your skin type.
  • Wet your face and hands with lukewarm water.
  • Work a small amount of facial cleanser into a foamy lather.
  • Massage it onto your face with gentle, circular motions.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water.

STEP 2: APPLY EYE CREAM

Dermatologist, Patrica Farris, MD says, “eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin around the eye, so they tend to be thicker. They contain more oil than a regular facial lotion, and they have a lot of active ingredients aimed at the problems we see around the eyes,”  According to WebMD, the skin around the eyes is more fragile, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. Squinting and constant movement of the eyes also hasten the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and fluids collect under the eyes and cause puffiness and dark circles. Eye creams can address some of these issues.

  • Using your ring finger, dot the eye cream under your eye, moving from inner to outer corner.
  • Press or gently tap to work product into the skin, using a light patting motion under the eye – don’t rub.

STEP 3: APPLY SERUM

STEP 4: APPLY MOISTURIZER

  • Squeeze a pea-size amount of product into the palm of your hand.
  • Apply to cheeks using a gentle circular motion.
  • Apply to forehead and rest of face using a gentle circular motion.

STEP 5: APPLY SUNSCREEN

Today, many moisturizers include sunscreen, so step 4 and 5 are the same.  If your moisturizer does not, you will need to apply a sunscreen designed specifically for your face.

The application process is the same as applying moisturizer.

  • Squeeze a pea-size amount of product into the palm of your hand.
  • Apply to cheeks using a gentle circular motion.
  • Apply to forehead and rest of face using a gentle circular motion.
